Early Christian Necropolis of Pecs (Sopianae)

The Early Christian Necropolis of Pecs (Sopianae) contains a number of underground tombs with impressive murals depicting Christian themes.

In the first half of the 4th century Pecs (then named Sopianae by the Romans) became an important Christian city. This Christian cemetery dates back to this age.

The nomination comprises 16 monuments, among which are burial chambers, chapels and a mausoleum.
